After a long wait and wanting a December carp since last year and only trying through the ice, I’ve finally made it happen with the amazing December weather we have been having. Yesterday was a great session considering I’ve blanked on my three previous longer sessions. So now I have given up on my fall spot that produced some amazing fish this fall for myself and others. It has gone dead with the water rising and colder conditions arriving.
I decided to fish a new swim where I knew of 3 carp being caught in the prior two days of me going. I arrived at the spot and setup blindly casting into where I thought looked good on the current edge. After 5 hours of waiting and only a few line bumps I reeled in again to change rigs and bait. I ended up getting snagged in where I thought was a clean spot. I then proceeded to pull out my marker rod and checked the area thoroughly for 25 minutes. After finding where the rock shelf ended and where another started I had found a nice clean spot to mark and bait in between the two cropping’s of rock and casted in directly beside it.
It was only a short wait of 20 minutes and I was into my first December carp. After what seemed like an eternity of going under other lines and getting hung up in the rocks briefly she finally graced the net. A beautiful coloured fish that took a good run and put up a better fight than it should of for its size. I sacked the fish recasted and took pictures followed by the release.
Again a long wait followed with no action for another 5 hours when I was rewarded with my second carp on the same bait as the first. In the same hole right beside the marker. It just really made me realize if u do the work and check the area for the best spot well u will most definitely be rewarded for your efforts.
